Overview
Playa Melones is a shore snorkel spot just west of Dewey, Culebra, reached by the unmarked uphill road behind the church. It lies in the no-take Canal Luis Peña Natural Reserve, where fishing is prohibited and anchoring is restricted; check current DRNA rules. A reef runs around the rocky point, with rock formations, sea fans and soft and hard corals; a local operator rates it best for coral and fish life, and a travel guide estimates depths of about 10 to 15 ft. Enter behind the 'Melones Beach' sign and swim right toward the rocks. A 2024 restoration project is replanting coral on the Punta Melones reef after stony coral tissue loss disease.[1][2][3][4][5]
