Overview

Heads up: Cayo Caracoles is a busy party island where boats and jet skis gather, very loud and crowded on holiday weekends, and one snorkel charter skips it on weekends and busy weekdays because of boat traffic. It is a mangrove islet and snorkel spot in the La Parguera Natural Reserve off Lajas, reached by your own or a rented boat. The sandbar is about 4 to 5 feet deep, with small mangrove tunnels to peek into, and there is no sand beach, so visitors stay in the water. A 2008 DRNA study recorded boat-bather conflicts and spearfishing in the bathing area, and recommended more mooring buoys; check current DRNA rules.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7]
