Overview

Playa Pata Prieta is a small, secluded cove just beyond Playa Caracas on Vieques and a snorkel spot that travel guides recommend for beginners. Getting there means an unpaved road where four-wheel drive is recommended, worse after rain, and the beach has little shade. The water is clear, calm and not too deep, and the best snorkeling is along the rocks at each end, over coral reefs and sea fans with schools of fish and sometimes manta or eagle rays; one guide says it is best in summer. It is reported to lie in the Vieques National Wildlife Refuge. Bring your own snorkel gear.[1][2][3][4][5]
