Flamingo tongue

Cyphoma gibbosum · Also called: Lengua de flamenco

Facts

  • A small snail, about an inch long. The bright spotted color is its soft mantle wrapped over the shell; the shell itself is plain white.[1]
  • Lives on sea fans and other gorgonians and feeds on their tissue. It takes in their toxins and becomes toxic itself.[1]
  • Collecting by snorkelers and divers is a threat to them, and once taken off the reef the shell is just plain white.[1]
